Spring is Not Just the Time for Cleaning, but Home Renovation Projects too!

Updated: May 6

Spring is finally here, and it’s the perfect time to shake off the winter blues and give your space a fresh start or even a home renovation! Whether it’s cleaning out the garage, sprucing up your garden, or tackling those little repairs that have been on your to-do list for months, this season brings the perfect opportunity to refresh your space. Let’s dive into some simple ways you can make your home feel like new again this spring.

Conference Recap with Elisha

Taking a break from our usual routines is so crucial—it allows us to break free from daily patterns and come back with fresh energy and new perspectives. After attending a recent conference, I was reminded just how important it is to step away for a while.

Key Takeaways from Jay Shetty

Jay Shetty, our keynote speaker, shared two powerful insights.

  • The first: expressing gratitude is just as important as feeling it. We can think about how grateful we are for others, but if we don’t share that feeling, it doesn’t have the same impact. A simple “thank you” can go a long way.

  • The second takeaway: deep personal connections are essential. Whether in life or business, building meaningful relationships nurtures our psyche and drives us to do our best work. This idea really resonated with me, especially when thinking about how we engage with others both personally and professionally.

Palm Springs Highlights

Beyond the sessions, the trip was full of special moments. One of the most memorable was reuniting with a woman I spoke alongside at the WomanUp conference five years ago. We hadn’t seen each other since, so it was so fun to catch up with a hug and a photo to mark the moment!

Christine, one of our long-time clients, friends, and business partners, joined me for the trip. We worked out, ate delicious food, and took long walks around Palm Springs. It was the perfect balance of work and play.

And of course, we couldn’t visit Palm Springs without taking the Las Palmas Loop tour to see some of the most beautiful homes in the area. The architecture was amazing, and I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures of the stunning doors I came across.

Transforming Taryn's Backyard into a Wellness Oasis

During the pandemic, my husband, Mike, and I decided to enhance our home with features that would support a healthier lifestyle. We started by converting our garage into a gym for convenient at-home workouts, but that was just the beginning. Last year, we took things a step further and built a "wellness shed" in our backyard—a space that includes both a sauna and a cold plunge pool.

Inspired by an Airbnb we stayed at in Mt. Hood, we worked alongside Mike’s dad and a family friend to create this peaceful outdoor retreat. Our backyard has quickly become one of our favorite spaces, especially as spring and summer roll around. Between cultivating a garden and incorporating the sauna and plunge pool, we’ve turned our yard into a place where we can relax and focus on wellness without needing a huge space.

More and more homeowners are realizing how powerful it can be to transform their properties to support their wellness goals. Whether it’s creating a meditation corner, adding a sauna like we did, or finding another way to connect with personal well-being, small changes can make a big difference. What does wellness at home look like for you?

Spring Cleaning: 5 Simple Ways to Declutter and Refresh Your Space

Spring is the perfect time to refresh your home, and what better way to do that than by decluttering? Here are five simple tips to help you declutter your home and enjoy a fresh start this season:

  1. Start with the Entryway: The entryway is the first thing you see when you walk into your home, so make it count! Declutter any shoes, bags, or mail that may have piled up.

  2. Tackle One Room at a Time: Instead of trying to declutter the entire house at once, focus on one room at a time to make the task feel less overwhelming.

  3. Declutter Your Kitchen Counters: A cluttered kitchen can make the space feel chaotic. Clear off any items that don’t belong on your counters—coffee makers, unused appliances, and mismatched dishes. Keep only the essentials, and find storage solutions for the rest.

  4. Go Through Your Wardrobe: Spring is a great time to go through your closet and get rid of anything you haven’t worn in the past year. It’ll feel like a fresh start every time you open your closet!

  5. Keep Sentimental Items in Check: We all have sentimental items—old photos, mementos, or keepsakes. While it’s important to cherish those memories, it’s also important to be mindful of how much you keep. Try to limit these items to a few select boxes or display them in a way that makes them part of your home’s decor, rather than clutter.

Home Renovation Project

When the owners first took on this project, the kitchen was small, cramped, and outdated. But with a little creativity (and some movable cabinets and stove placement), they maximized the space and made it both functional and stylish.

The Design:

  • The homeowners went for a Japandi-inspired aesthetic—combining the simplicity of Japanese design with the warmth of Scandinavian elements. Think clean lines, natural materials, and a serene color palette that invites calm into the home.

  • Refuge Exterior Paint: For the exterior, they chose a beautiful, warm tone in Refuge by Sherwin-Williams, giving the home a welcoming, earthy vibe that fits perfectly with the natural surroundings.

  • Alabaster Interior Walls: Inside, the walls were painted in Alabaster, creating a light, neutral backdrop that makes the space feel bright and open.

  • Cabinets from Mega Home & Quartz Countertops: The kitchen was given a new life with custom cabinetry sourced from Mega Home, paired with sleek, easy-to-maintain quartz countertops.

  • Variegated Cream Tile & Warm Brown LVT Floors: The floors were updated with warm light brown LVT that adds a touch of modern sophistication, while the variegated cream tiles bring a bit of texture and interest to the space.

Big Updates You Can't See:

  • Along with the aesthetic updates, the home was given a full systems overhaul. New plumbing, updated electrical work, and a brand-new AC system mean the next owner won’t have to worry about any major repairs down the line. They took care of all the foundational items so the new owner can truly enjoy the space without hassle.
